Landscape Simulations
In my Landscape Simulation Series, I am interested in monumentality, mediation and simulations of the “real”. These interests are articulated through hyper-real drawings of hybridized landscapes culled through a variety of sources; from places I have actually visited (County Clare, Ireland) to iconic landscapes from movie and television sets (Star Wars, Little House on the Prairie, etc). From questionable geological interactions to cultural mashups, I create new amalgamated vistas based on my own experience of nature –one derived mainly from media, but not specifically. No hierarchical importance is placed on the notion of my “real” experience versus a mediated one, a contemporary truism that is pervasive throughout our relationship with nature.
