Performance
Using the tableau of the elevator as a social space, I developed a performance exploring peer pressure and conformity. Staged and unannounced to the gallery visitors, the performance occurred during the span of the three-hour opening of the exhibition. Three actors entered the elevator at separate times and performed different actions based on the 1950’s Candid Camera sketch exploring peer pressure and conformity. The basis for the action was for gallery visitors to conform to the actions of the actors without knowing they were directly yielding to peer pressure.
